About the League

The CEHL is a Saturday night men's hockey league that was started in 1988 by Tom Cole, Gary West, Rob Rutherford, and Paul Hiscox; today, the league is home to just under 80 players, ranging from first-time hockey players to ex-junior players.  This season there are seven teams in the league and games run in the Cobourg Pad 2 arena every Saturday night.

 // RULES & REGULATIONS

-          Games consist of a 3-minute warm-up and two periods of 23 minutes, running clock.  In the last 5 minutes of the second period, the time will stop if the goal differential is 3 or less.

-          Minor penalties are 3 minutes in length.

-          Any player receiving three minor penalties in one game will be ejected from that game.

-          Any major penalty will be 7 minutes in length and carries a game misconduct penalty as well.  If a major penalty occurs in the last 10 minutes of the second period, the game misconduct will be served in the next game.

-          Any major penalty received by a player will be reviewed by the league executive for possible further suspension.

-          A fighting major penalty is an automatic 3 game suspension.

-          If a team is short a man because of a minor or major penalty, they are not allowed to change players on the fly.  This discourages the penalized teams from wasting time on a stoppage of play.

-          If the game is tied after regulation time, there will be a 5 minute over-time period. Each team will have four skaters and one goalie on the ice.  (Though you may pull your goalie at any time).  Teams will only be allowed to change players on the fly.

  // PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

-          The CEHL requires that all players wear a CSA approved helmet.

-          All skaters are also required to wear facial protection in the form of a half visor, half cage, or full cage.
